John Cameron is introduced in the first episode as the host of the Orbiting Human Circus of the Air. Like most characters, little is known about his life outside of the Orbiting Human Circus.
In the season one bonus episode, he is revealed to be in a secret romantic relationship with real-life actor Cary Grant. As his actor and namesake John Cameron Mitchell is gay, John most likely is as well.
Like most of the characters, the version of John that has been shown so far exists only in Julian's daydream, and nothing is known about the real-life version of him.
Personality[]
John is often shown to be a very anxious man, most of the anxiety being brought on by the fact that he does not know where most of the show's acts are coming from, and is afraid of anyone finding out about that.
He seems to be somewhat suicidal. In episode 3, he (perhaps jokingly, though it is unclear) asks Julian to push him off the Eiffel Tower. In episode 7, he jumps in front of an angry polar bear, forcing Julian to jump in front of him to save his life, and leading to Julian being injured and almost killed.
Appearance[]
He is implied to wear suits most of the time, and to be very meticulous about his appearance. In episode 3, the Narrator describes his "normally immaculate suit" as "dirty and crumpled". In episode 5, he resists going into the shower stagehand's shower to talk to Julian because he is "wearing a suit", to which Leticia replies "oh, you and your suits".
Relationships[]
Julian the janitor[]
Most of John's interactions with Julian are antagonistic. He resents the janitor for constantly "ruining" the Orbiting Human Circus's broadcasts, not without good reason. After Julian recovers the cricket, whom they'd both thought to be dead, in episode 3, John supposedly starts being nicer to to Julian, even giving him one of Cary's jackets sometime before episode 6. His actions did lead to Julian becoming hypnotized in episode 5, but Julian Koster has stated that John was not aware this would happen, and only let the hypnosis continue because of his "the show must go on" philosophy. In episode 8, he finally seems to accept Julian as part of the show, even allowing him to stand on stage and sing at the end.
Cary (Archibald)[]
In the bonus episode, John and Cary are stated to be in a secret romantic relationship.
In Sixthly, The Flea Talks, Julian overhears John talking to Archie on the Eiffel Tower payphone. Archie seems to be telling John that he liked the show, and John tells Archie that he's seen his movie twenty times at the cinema. With respect to their current relationship, John says "We had Naughty Till New Year’s, we were gonna be together, that was our plan, what? No, I’m seriously asking you. What happened?" Archie says something (unheard) and John responds "Julian? He's actually at the Eiffel Tower, he's the janitor here, isn't that crazy?"
In Ninthly, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner!, John tells Leticia that he and Archie are in an "omniscient relationship," meaning they can do whatever they want as long as god knows.
