Jacques is introduced in episode 1 as a stagehand at the Orbiting Human Circus of the air. Like most characters, little is known about his life outside the circus.
Jacques tries to act tough most of the time, though he does not always succeed. In episode 2, he threatens to break Julian's legs if he tells Leticia that Jacques was smoking, but it's an obviously empty threat. In episode 3, he tells François that he is the toughest one who works at the Orbiting Human Circus, which François laughs at. In episode 4, he asks Pierre if he knows how much he lifted that weekend, to which Pierre responds "a six pack?".
It has been confirmed by Julian Koster in the bonus episode that Leticia is stronger than Jacques, and that she has beat him at arm wrestling. Koster also said that Jacques dislikes talking about that event.
Despite his tough exterior, Jacques seems to have a softer side. He defends Julian from Leticia in episode 5, despite the fact that he has threatened Julian with violence before, and is even seen crying (and trying to hide his tears) in episode 8, when the staff thinks the circus is going to be shut down.
In episode 8, Jacques says that he hasn't "been to confession in 14 years", suggesting that he was raised Catholic but has since lapsed.
Relationships[]
Jacques's Aunt[]
Jacques's aunt is mentioned several times in the series.
In Firstly, the Janitor, Jacques tells a group of stagehands that he's going to hang out with his 'kung fu buddies' but instead goes to drink tea with his aunt.
In Secondly, the Past, Jacques tells Leticia that when he was a kid, his aunt would tell him to look for the Eiffel Tower if he got lost.
Leticia[]
Jacques and Leticia seem to have a close friendship outside of work. In Tenthly, a Time for Dreamers, they arm-wrestle for a guitar and Leticia breaks his arm.
